Did you
know that a pastor at Holy Family participated in the
funeral of an assassinated U.S. president?
+Fr. Theodore
Danusiar, pastor of Holy Family at the time, was one of
only three clergymen officially taking part in the
funeral for President John F. Kennedy. Shortly after the
word of the tragedy became public, Fr. Danusiar contacted
the White House to express his condolences and
volunteered to help in any way that he could. He was
thanked for his offer and was told that everything was
being taken care of. A few days later the White House
contacted Fr. Danusiar and requested that he participate
in President Kennedy's funeral.
Did you know that
the first United States ambassador to the newly
independent Ukraine was a parishioner at the Ukrainian
Catholic National Shrine of the Holy Family?
The Honorable Roman Popadiuk, appointed Ambassador
to Ukraine by President Bush,
arrived in Kiev on June 8, 1992 along with his
family. Upon completion of his appointment, they returned
to the Washington, D.C. area and resumed active
membership in the Ukrainian Catholic National Shrine of
the Holy Family. Amb. Popadiuk and his family have now
relocated to Texas, where he is the director of the Bush
Presidential Library.
