The Shrine Library
opened in 1983 as an updated expansion
of the previous parish library. A
bookstore was soon added to fund the acquisition of
new titles, especially in the areas
of Ukrainian culture, history and religious
life.
Since its start, the Shrine Library has put thousands
of books into the hands of parishioners and visitors
through loans and sales. When visiting the Shrine,
please come in and see our fine selection
of the latest publications in Ukrainian and
English.
Annual Pysanka Workshop
The annual Pysanka Workshop for beginners and advanced
students is regularly scheduled only once a year on the
Sunday preceding Palm Sunday. If you have enjoyed the
workshop, share the joy of making pysanka with your
friends and family. Authentic pysanka, pysanka-decorating
kits and other supplies may be purchased during the
workshop and year-round at the Shrine
Gift Shop.
-
Hours of Operation: Sunday, 10:30 am – 12:30 pm. (Other hours by appointment)
Book donations for 2008: by arrangement only during June, July and August.
-
The Shrine Library was first organized in 1973
through the initiative of the Marian Sodality (Mariyska Druzyna).
After the completion of the first phase of the Shrine Center, the collection was transferred to the new building, and the Library was re-opened in 1983. A bookstore was soon added to fund the acquisition of new titles, especially in the areas of Ukrainian culture, history and religious life. In 1995 the Library underwent a partial renovation to replace some of the metal shelving with adjustable wooden bookcases. The final phase of the renovation was completed in 2007, providing a welcoming and congenial place in which to browse, borrow, buy, discuss and order books.
-
Every year, the Library offers a large variety of new and used books
for sale at the Shrine’s Christmas Bazaar. The annual Pysanka Workshop
for beginners and advanced students takes place on the Sunday preceding Palm Sunday
(see next page for information about the 2008 Pysanka Symposium).
-
In addition, the Library sponsors or helps support various educational and cultural events,
including talks, lectures and exhibits.
